What was it like in the early days, trying to get your big break as a model? Have you had any tough times, and how did you overcome them? Before I became a model, I had several jobs. I worked as a cleaner and in a call centre. I was a single mum, struggling financially. I then saw a modelling competition in News of the World, offering a chance to be the first non-celebrity to grace the cover of FHM Magazine. At the time, I had been learning about the law of attraction, so I took the leap—and it changed my life.
What was your upbringing like?
I had a lovely family, but I always felt out of place, like I didn’t belong. Everything seemed easier for others, while I struggled. It wasn’t until I was diagnosed with ADHD at 39 that everything made sense.
What life lessons have you learned?
The best thing I’ve learned is to stop worrying about what others think of me. People are too busy worrying about themselves!
What’s been the hardest part of your life?
I struggled with bullying at school and undiagnosed ADHD. It led to emotional instability, and I even attempted to take my life.
You had a breakdown. How did you get through those difficult times?
During my breakdown, I returned to basics. I quit TV, closed my businesses, stopped drinking, and focused on self-care—clean living, therapy, exercise, meditation, gratitude journaling, and prayer.
If you could go back and change anything, would you? Why?
I wouldn’t have taken antidepressants. They created a chemical imbalance, making me feel numb. I wasn’t depressed—I had undiagnosed ADHD. I only discovered this when I was nearly 40.
Do you have a secret you can share with us?
I’m pregnant! Just kidding! No, I have no secrets—I’m an open book. I believe secrets can make you ill.
What’s your biggest regret?
My biggest regret is self-medicating with alcohol and sleeping tablets. My mind was always chaotic, and I sought quick fixes to quieten it. But those weren’t the solutions.
What do you have planned for the future?
I’m rebuilding my business, Tanya Bardo. It’s a jewellery brand with a focus on manifestation rituals. I also own a hair extension company, Look Eleven, and I’m excited about filming the 10-year anniversary of The Real Housewives of Cheshire.
