Upbringing and Musical Roots
Growing up with a West African mum and a dad from Penge, our home was steeped in musical heritage. Dad, a member of the pioneering Reggae band Savoy Sounds, introduced Jamaican music to London clubs. Mum worked at a club where they met, and from there, our family’s musical journey began. With Marvin Gaye playing in the background, my siblings and I were surrounded by rich musical influences.
The Start of a Music Career: Busking to Chart Success
Music was in our blood, but it wasn’t until my brother and I started busking that things really took off. We sold CDs on the streets, hustled our way onto the charts, and even caught the attention of record labels. Despite the odds, we signed a two-year deal, and our song “Truly Madly Deeply” made it to the charts. This whirlwind experience fueled our passion for music, and we’ve never looked back.
Going Solo and Finding Success
Though I valued my time performing with my brother, I eventually ventured into a solo career, seeking my own creative path. I began writing original songs, and to my surprise, my track “Red Light” reached No. 11 on the charts without major backing, proving that self-belief and determination can lead to success in the music industry.

Tyber Bar: Music and Community in Tunbridge Wells
My career has seen many highs, from chart-topping hits to performing at venues like Wembley Arena. But I always wanted to give back to the community that supported me. This led to the opening of Tyber Bar in Tunbridge Wells, where we blend West African and Caribbean flavours using my nan’s recipes at Tyber’s Nana Rita’s. The bar has fostered a vibrant music scene, attracting a diverse crowd that unites over great food and live music.

A standout moment in our journey was when one of our songs was featured in the climax of the film Fool’s Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson. This proved that even buskers can make a significant mark in the entertainment world, despite Simon Cowell’s initial doubts.
